Monkey – Wishes Do Come True: Book Release

Monkey – Wishes Do Come True: Book Release

'I’ll write a book' she said.. and so it began.

Who knew it would take endless weeks and months of soul searching, inner work, tears, meditations, conversations of encouragement, more tears and eventually laughter, before I finally began to write the first line!

For those of you that don’t know the full story, let me fill you in.

Monkey has been Amelia’s lifeline of love and connection for over 12 years of her life. Way back in the day when she and Samuel were just inquisitive and adventurous toddlers, we spent the day at the fun-fair in the leafy suburb of Clapham (or ‘Nappy Valley’ as it is lovingly referred to by the locals), in South West London. Amelia ‘hooked the duck’ and as her prize chose Monkey… From that day on they were inseparable, Monkey literally went everywhere with us.

But that’s not how the story ends, over the years and throughout the many trips, holidays, house moves and eventually transatlantic moves (twice), Monkey was there for her. At least most of the time anyway! There were many hair raising moments when we thought he was lost for good, long gone on the sidewalks of Manhattan, lost forever in the palm tress of Los Angeles and even assumed missing in the midst of Passport Control at Heathrow airport.. but each and every time he miraculously showed up.

Eventually I began telling people the tales, the common and collective responses were ‘You couldn’t write that’ or more importantly, ‘You should write that’.. so I did.

That was five years ago!

‘Monkey – Wishes Do Come True’ is the first in a series of children’s picture books, magical tales of connection, trust, but most importantly, LOVE. Those of you who know me well, know I am sucker for a happy ending and that I absolutely believe that love conquers all. In a world where there is so much sadness and unrest, we need more than ever to remember the importance of LOVE.

That’s not the most exciting part! As I toyed with the idea over and over again about writing, ‘What did I know about that anyway?’, ‘Who was I to write a children’s picture book?’. Actually, who was I NOT to?

Amelia and Sam entered 6th Grade, we were assigned a community service project of buying and wrapping Christmas gifts for an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. Two women, long standing members of the school community, and founders of the Faithfully Yours Foundation, had connected the middle school with the orphanage, Casa Hogar Sion, and every year the 8th Grade students would make the trip down across the border to deliver the wrapped gifts and spend the day connecting with, playing with and sharing love with the children. It became an annual tradition for the school and one that, once I found out about it, touched my heart so deeply, made me forget all my fears.

There had to be more we could do, that was my inspiration, and for that reason I committed there and then to just write the damn book and make sure a percentage of every Monkey book sold would go directly to the foundation to give direct support to the orphanage.

Every child deserves a chance in life, every child deserves an education, and every child deserves to be loved. This is the story of my heart.

I cannot wait to share it with you!!!

Now the day is fast approaching that I can share this gift with you all and beyond.
